The Bayelsa State Governor's Cup, also known as the Prosperity Cup, has produced many talents over the years, especially for teams like Bayelsa United and other football clubs in the diaspora.
Last season's competition discovery, Harmony John, formerly of Golden Sun Sports Club, was snapped up by Bayelsa Queens into their first team on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025. She made history by scoring in her professional debut for the club against Benue Queens in the Nigerian Women's Football League game at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
Coach Whyte Ogbonda surprisingly included Harmony John, an attacking midfielder, in the starting lineup. To the amazement of the watching crowd, the midfielder repaid her coach's trust with a Woman of the Match performance in her first-ever top-flight appearance for her dream club.
It all started in the 10th minute when she finished off a beautiful team move by scoring from a rebound shot to give her side the lead.
This lead took the Prosperity Girls three points clear of rivals Rivers Angels, who had earlier in the day lost their game against FC Robo of Lagos.
Harmony John's growth and performance in this encounter are a testament to Douye Diri's agenda and vision of taking the youth off the streets by investing heavily in the largest grassroots football competition in Nigeria.
In addition, credit must also go to the Bayelsa Queens' board, led by its Chairman Pastor Robin Apreala, and the club's technical crew for giving the player the opportunity to showcase her talent at a club of such magnitude.
With the 2025 female edition of the Prosperity Cup yet to kick off, talents like Harmony John should be expected to be discovered for Bayelsa Queens and, hopefully, other top-flight clubs around the country.
