In a promising move, Porto has made the decision to promote the highly talented Nigerian sensation, Abraham Marcus, to their first team for the eagerly anticipated 2023-24 season.
The 23-year-old forward originally joined Porto on loan from Remo Stars FC in the Nigeria Premier League back in July 2022, specifically joining Porto B, the club's reserve team.
From the moment Marcus stepped foot on the pitch, his exceptional skills and performances left a lasting impression on both the fans and the club's management.
During his time with Porto B, he showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting an impressive nine goals and contributing with an assist in 30 appearances.
Such was the impact Marcus made on Porto's manager, Sérgio Conceição, that the young talent was invited to train with the first team.
This eventually led to his long-awaited debut for Porto, a moment that was eagerly anticipated by both the player and the club.
Initially, it was expected that Marcus would return to Remo Stars at the conclusion of his loan spell, unless Porto extended a permanent contract offer.
However, recent reports suggest that the Nigerian prodigy has caught the attention of Porto's coaching staff, resulting in an extended stay with the club.
Reputable Portuguese sports outlet, Record, has reported that Abraham Marcus is now firmly in the plans of FC Porto's main team.
Manager Sérgio Conceição has specifically called up multiple players, including Marcus, for training sessions. It is worth noting that Marcus will no longer be part of the FC Porto B team, as he has been promoted to the prestigious first team.
Porto, who finished as runners-up in the Primeira Liga last season, closely trailing champions Benfica, have set their sights on reclaiming the title they have triumphed with an astonishing 30 times.
With Marcus's exceptional talent now gracing their first team, Porto hopes that he can make a significant contribution towards their championship aspirations in the upcoming season.
It is also noteworthy that Abraham Marcus has already earned two caps for the Super Eagles, the Nigerian national team, further highlighting his growing reputation and potential on the international stage.
