Robert Lewandowski is expected to recover in time to play for Poland in their second Euro 2024 match against Austria in Berlin, according to coach Michal Probierz. The Barcelona striker sustained a thigh injury during a friendly against Turkey and will miss Poland's opening game against the Netherlands, but Probierz remains hopeful for his return against Austria.
Despite initial concerns raised by some media reports, Probierz clarified that Lewandowski's injury might not rule him out for the entire group phase. He expressed confidence in Lewandowski's recovery, citing progress in his treatment and the efforts of the medical staff to facilitate his return to the team.
Probierz emphasized that there are different degrees of muscle injuries and stated that Lewandowski is undergoing individual training to aid his recovery. He deferred detailed inquiries to the team's physiotherapists, expressing full trust in their expertise.
While Verona forward Karol Swiderski sustained an ankle injury during celebrations against Turkey, Probierz confirmed that Swiderski had returned to team training. Poland will face title favorites France in their final group stage match on June 25th, rounding off their campaign in the group.
