Plateau United's victory over Heartland FC well deserved despite wasteful strikers

After a painful 1-2 loss to Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Match Day 1 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Plateau United FC regrouped for Match Day 2 with Coach Mbwas Mangut making exactly four changes to the first team. Mundi Bernard, Barnabas Daniel, Sam Pam Junior, and Mustapha Abdullahi were included for a crucial game that marked Plateau United Football Club's first competitive home match.
Facing the Naze millionaires, who were the only team that failed to win at home on Match Day 1, posed a tricky challenge.
Plateau United's early dominance created clear penetrative angles for Mundi Bernard, but his shot went wide above the target. Uche Onwuasoanya also missed a chance with a wide shot.
The Peace Boys' breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Olawale Doyeni passed to Barnabas Daniel, who curled in a fine shot. Bernard Mundi's sublime volley found the back of the net, sparking celebrations among the fans.
Heartland FC of Owerri had their chances too when Chijoke Opara threw the ball in, and Patrick Nwogbaga headed it toward Amah John, who parried it to safety.
The Naze millionaires threatened with their best chance when Austin Osayande entered the box and delivered a cross, but Patrick Nwogbaga's miss was rather shocking.
Afterward, the Peace Boys missed several opportunities, including Samuel Kalu's long-range effort that hit the crossbar, much to the fans' delight. Plateau United could have capitalized on more chances in their favor.
On Match Day 2 of the Nigeria Premier Football League, there were 9 home wins out of 10 games, with only Akwa United failing to claim maximum points at home.
The Peace Boys will head to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City for an away match against Bendel Insurance on Match Day 3.
