Plateau United's defeat to Katsina United come with pains, says Coach

Posted : 18 March 2024

Placed in 8th position heading into Match Day 26 fixtures, Katsina United's decent run of form since Matchday 20 has seen them pick up 8 points from a possible 18.

Since Match Day 20, Plateau United's near-perfect run has seen them endure only a 3-1 defeat to Sunshine Stars of Akure on Match Day 24, en route to racking up an impressive 13 points from an available 18 to place second before the fixture at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

After thirteen minutes, Alex Enejo regains control and releases Mustapha Abdullahi, whose successful combination with Nenrot Silas finds the pacy forward tripped by Katsina United's Chidera Ezeh, attracting a penalty.

An opportunity Albert Hillary pounced upon to successfully beat Pius Ibrahim and hand the Peace Boys the opening initiative while equally going joint top of the current NPFL top scorers chart alongside Enyimba's Chijioke Mbaoma on 12 goals each.

At 26 minutes later, the hosts would respond when Ibe Okoro receives the ball, drives in, and releases Idoko Andrew Alecheno, who pulls clear to net the equalizer and turn the game on its head.

While in the 70th minute, Katsina United's Azeez Falolu receives the ball, drives in, and sets up Moses Effiong, whose darting runs bring him in contact with goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso to attract the second penalty of the game.

Ibe Okoro steps up to play, but after moments of hesitation, he dispatches his kick, but Ayeleso reads correctly to parry the ball to safety and deny the hosts a conversion.

With just 11 minutes left in regulation time, Katsina United's Falolu Azeez picks up the ball and dazzles himself into space to release Moses Effiong, whose eventual cut back hands Chidera Eze the opportunity to tuck in and hand the hosts a 2-1 result that excites their fans.

Eight home wins and two draws dominated statistics in 10 NPFL games on Match Day 26.

Currently in fourth place, The Peace Boys regroup for Match Day 27 with a home tie against Akwa United of Uyo in Jos.
