2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 9: Plateau United FC players, coaches, in cloud 9 after Sunshine Stars' spanking

Posted : 28 October 2024

While two Match Day 9 NPFL25 games were held on Day 1, six more matches took place on Day 2, with the final two scheduled for Monday, October 28th, on Day 3 across the country.

In Jos, the Owena Whales, ranked fourth before their 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 9 encounter against Plateau United, arrived alongside 2017 NPFL winner Kennedy Boboye.

Despite their disappointment in Umuahia on Match Day 8, the Peace Boys’ convincing win against Remo Stars on Match Day 7 seemed to instill fear in the Akure Gunners. With Mbwas Mangut determined to address the shortcomings from the last match, they aimed to return to the top ranks in the standings.

Buoyed by the inclusion of Plateau United's attacking duo, Vincent Temitope and Adamu Abubakar Sadiq, in the provisional list for the Super Eagles Team B, both stars appeared ready to prove their worth. They achieved this with an assured performance, ultimately producing three goals.

It was a match in which Adamu Abubakar secured a brace after Vincent Temitope’s confident conversion from the penalty spot, 16 minutes into play.

Adamu Abubakar’s brace was made possible by Daniel Itodo’s set-piece delivery, which the swift winger connected with to make it 2-0 in the 66th minute.

The Peace Boys put the game to bed when Adamu Abubakar capitalized on a defensive lapse, rounding the Sunshine Stars' goalkeeper to coolly net the game’s third goal in added time.

Former Plateau United midfielder, now with Sunshine Stars, Seth Mayi created several moments of concern for the Peace Boys with some defense-splitting passes and attempts.

Former Peace Boys marksman Saidu Salisu also posed a couple of threats, but not enough to get the Akure Gunners on the scoresheet.

During play, Plateau United’s Sam Pam Junior delivered a number of inspirational moments that threatened the opposition and showcased some fine performances.

While Plateau United’s Mbwas Mangut believes there are still areas for improvement in his team, Coach Kennedy Boboye declined any media interviews at the game’s end.

The Peace Boys head to the Northeast for a Match Day 10 clash against Kano Pillars.
