Plateau United FC Mgt. passes vote of confidence on coach Mangut

Posted : 12 November 2024

The management of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United FC has passed a vote of confidence on the team's manager, Mbwas Mangut, expecting him to turn things around for the club.

Mangut has been under intense pressure due to his side's poor form, which has seen them go winless in three consecutive matches.

The club, however, has placed their trust in the former Delta Force FC, Heartland FC of Owerri, and Rangers International FC of Enugu Chief Coach.

Mangut began his debut campaign as Technical Adviser at Plateau United FC in July 2023.

Fielding a relatively young side, the Bokkos-born coach missed out on continental qualification by the narrowest margin last season, following a 2-0 loss away to Enyimba International FC of Aba.

Mbwas' debut season as Technical Adviser of the Peace Boys saw them finish in fifth place with 58 points, just four and five points behind fourth and third-placed Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan and Enyimba International FC of Aba, respectively. The team also scored 53 goals, just three short of eventual champions Rangers International FC of Enugu.

Among his achievements last season was three wins and a draw on the road, including the historic 5-1 away victory against Heartland FC of Owerri.

Currently, in the NPFL 2024/25 season, where there has been an avalanche of dropped points at home, Mbwas Mangut's side has already picked up two points on the road against 3SC of Ibadan and El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, along with convincing home wins against high-flying Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars. They also delivered an assured performance against Rangers International FC of Enugu, where the Peace Boys dominated for most of the game, despite playing with one man down after John Amah's red card in the first half.

Sadly for the coach, a number of his proven center forwards, including Albert Hilary, Benard Mundi, Rotshak John, Collins Onovughe, Adama, and Ibeh Michael, are currently sidelined due to various injuries, leaving only Saka Gafar and Mohammed Camara available for selection.

So far, the midfield combination of Victor Dawa, Mafeng Pam, and Mohammed Umar has proven to be one of the most efficient combinations in the NPFL recently.

Experts say Mbwas Mangut's trajectory is a work in progress and that he needs time to fully regain his momentum.

It is believed that Mbwas Mangut has the potential to dominate the NPFL sooner rather than later.
