The management of Plateau United FC announced on Friday an upward review of the gate fee for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 29 clash against Kano Pillars as a precautionary measure for crowd control.
The 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 29 between the two northern clubs will take place at the Jos Township Stadium and is expected to draw large numbers of fans due to their historical rivalry.
However, the management stated that the upward review was necessary to control the number of fans attending the highly anticipated match.
"The management of Plateau United FC wishes to announce an upward review of the gate fee for the NPFL25 Match Day 30 schedule against visiting Kano Pillars FC in Jos.
Consequently, fans will be required to pay the sum of five hundred Naira (₦500) to gain entrance on Match Day 29.
While this may cause some inconvenience to fans and stakeholders, the management sincerely apologizes for any disruption.
It is important to note that the reviewed price applies only to Match Day 30. The usual price of two hundred Naira (₦200) will resume from Match Day 32.
Making this clarification, the Peace Boys of Jos stated: "Following earlier announcements regarding the planned gate fee increase for NPFL25 Match Day 30, management wishes to clarify its position.
First, after reviewing security reports ahead of the game, adopting crowd control measures became essential to avoid a repeat of past unfortunate incidents on match days.
Plateau United and Kano Pillars have very large fanbases across northern Nigeria. Considering the proximity of bordering states and the available fan base, several crowd management measures needed to be introduced.
With the management currently working to recover points deducted due to previous fan-related issues, it was strategically necessary to adopt measures to manage the expected crowd size.
Additionally, in management's wisdom, it was stated clearly that the gate fee will revert to ₦200 as usual after Match Day 30.
While critics may disagree, ensuring the safety of players, all competing club officials, fans, and accompanying stakeholders remains the top priority for the management.
While we may not disclose all fan control measures for security purposes, the management sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused. The decisions made were carefully considered in the best interest of the club and its esteemed fanbase."
