2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 11: Plateau United FC claims ignorance of attack on Rangers International convoy

Posted : 12 November 2024

In defense against allegations that Plateau United FC supporters attacked the convoy and injured some players and officials of visiting Rangers International FC, the club has vehemently denied the claims.

It is worth recalling that disturbing pictures and videos of an alleged attack on the league's defending champions, Rangers International FC, surfaced following their 0-0 draw against Plateau United FC in Jos during the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11.

The Peace Boys, however, have refuted the story as false.

"At the conclusion of the NPFL25 Match Day 11 game involving Plateau United FC and Rangers International of Enugu in Jos, viral photographs and videos flooded various media platforms, showing an injured player from Rangers International of Enugu.

The Rangers team claimed that fans of Plateau United FC attacked them with rocks, resulting in a player’s injury and property damage.

"It must be noted that at the end of the Match Day 11 game, players and officials of Rangers International of Enugu departed the New Jos Stadium safely without any form of harassment.

Moreover, the Technical Team successfully held a post-match interview in the Media Conference room before departing.

Upon further examination, reports indicate that the visiting team had traveled nearly two kilometers away from the stadium before the incident occurred.

While the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, it’s essential to note that once the visiting team leaves the stadium's perimeter, security responsibility falls beyond the host team’s jurisdiction.

While Plateau United FC condemns any form of hooliganism among its fan base, the club insists it has no knowledge of, nor any involvement with, those accused of the attack.

According to Plateau United FC General Manager Habila Hosea Mutla, “We are a peaceful club that believes in any of the three possible outcomes—win, lose, or draw—when we step out for a game.

Therefore, we will do everything within our power to maintain law and order within the stadium perimeter,” he said.
