The Plateau State Governor, Mr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has pledged his unflinching support to one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Mighty Jets of Jos.
Recall that Mighty Jets were the first winners of the Nigerian League, the crown they won in 1972. They played at the top level until 1985.
Mighty Jets hold the record for losing the most FA Cup finals, losing 10 finals they've played in while winning none.
However, the club's fortunes have dwindled over the years as the team was relegated to the second-tier league.
Mighty Jets were further demoted to the third division in 1994, spending three seasons there before being promoted back to the second division in 1997. The Jets' last time in the Premier League was a one-year stint in 2004.
They finished at the bottom of the 18-team table with 28 points (7 wins, 7 ties, and 20 losses) and then lost a promotion playoff against rivals Wikki Tourists when the league expanded to 20 teams.
With the dwindling fortunes, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang said better days were ahead for the team.
"We will not allow one of the prideful clubs in Nigeria to go under, not under my watch.
"We are going to ensure that the glory of Mighty Jets is restored, and we have made plans for this.
"The club has been presented with a new bus to ease their movement, and we will not hesitate to further lend our helping hands," he said.
