History was made on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, as El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri secured their promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The team, led by the great tactician Coach Aliyu Zubair, defeated Sokoto United 4-1 in their last game of the NNL Super 8 to seal their promotion back to the Premier League.
El-Kanemi Warriors had an impressive season and finished top of the NNL Northern Conference Group C to secure their spot in the Super 8.
However, one football prodigy was at the heart of this notable achievement of the Borno State-owned team—his name is Alabi Sulyman Jojo.
Alabi Jojo is a graduate of La Planet Sport Academia. He was scouted from Champions FC in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.
The young and mercurial midfielder is one of the many graduates of La Planet Sport Academia flying the Academy's flag high across the world.
"Two assists from me send us back to the Premier League," exclaimed a delighted Alabi Jojo on his social media page after his team's 4-1 victory over Sokoto United on Wednesday.
Jojo's assists were a major inspiration behind the eventual success of the Borno State-owned team.
He provided the assist for the Warriors' equalizer against Sokoto United, which opened the door for the eventual victory.
Sealing the game for El-Kanemi was the penalty that gave them the fourth goal after Jojo was fouled inside the box.
Earlier, he played a pivotal role in his team's 2-1 triumph over Sporting Supreme in their second game of the NNL Super 8.
Alabi, whose late father was also a footballer, will be fondly remembered by the fans of the team for providing the assist for their only winning goal in the quarter-final of the President Federation Cup, where they defeated Shooting Stars 1-0 to reach the semi-finals.
Making history with El-Kanemi Warriors is one of the proudest moments for the Ilorin-born footballer, whose potential is waiting to be further explored both within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
"I am very happy with this achievement. It's one of my proudest moments on earth. It's a collective effort of the management, coaches, and players that has pushed us this far.
"I can't wait to play in the elite league in Nigeria. It has always been a dream. I look forward to the experience next season," he remarked.
Alabi also expressed his gratitude to the Technical Adviser of the club, Coach Aliyu Zubair, for the confidence reposed in him.
Coach Zubair will also be fondly remembered for promoting Gombe United back to the NPFL a few years ago.
Meanwhile, El-Kanemi Warriors will be looking forward to securing a spot in the final of the Federation Cup when they face Kebbi United in the semi-final in Abuja on June 20, 2024.
