Pirates aim to complete double against red-hot Richards Bay

Posted : 04 November 2024

Orlando Pirates aim to secure a double victory over Richards Bay in their upcoming Betway Premiership match on Tuesday at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm CAT.

The Buccaneers have made a strong start to the league season, achieving six consecutive wins, including a 2-0 victory against TS Galaxy last Tuesday. This impressive performance places them at the top of the Betway Premiership table, three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns. A win against Richards Bay would extend their lead to six points.

In contrast, Richards Bay is entering the match with renewed confidence after overcoming Cape Town City in the Carling Knockout, winning 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw. This victory ended their two-match winless streak and could provide a boost as they face the Pirates.

Currently, Richards Bay sits in 12th place in the league standings, three points adrift of SuperSport United, who occupy the seventh position. A win against the Pirates would propel them into the top eight, which is a crucial goal for the team.

In terms of team news, Orlando Pirates are dealing with several injuries, including Deano van Rooyen, Thabiso Lebitso, Olisa Ndah, Zakhele Lepasa, Sandile Mthethwa, and Goodman Mosele. However, they have no players facing suspension ahead of the match.

On the other hand, Richards Bay will be missing key players Langelihle Mhlongo and Yanela Mbuthuma due to suspensions. The club has not reported any injuries, so they will be able to field their best available squad.

With both teams motivated to secure a positive result, the match promises to be an exciting encounter as the Pirates seek to extend their winning streak while Richards Bay aims to climb the league standings.
