Sadiq Umar's injury in the Super Eagles' pre-AFCON camp is more severe than anticipated, ruling him out of the tournament.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed his withdrawal, and manager Jose Peseiro replaced him with Southampton loanee Paul Onuachu.
Sadiq sustained a knee injury in a friendly against Guinea, forcing him to miss training sessions in Abidjan.
Previously, he recovered from a right knee anterior cruciate ligament tear in September 2022. Despite participating in 22 games this season, he'll miss AFCON.
Onuachu, initially in the provisional roster, joins the main squad as Sadiq's replacement, ready for Nigeria's AFCON opener against Equatorial Guinea.
On loan to Trabzonspor, Onuachu's stellar performance includes nine goals and three assists in fifteen Super Lig games. This marks his second AFCON appearance, following his debut in the 2019 edition.
