Pep Guardiola expressed his belief that Manchester City's inaugural Champions League victory was destined, and he commended the club for their unwavering support despite the prolonged wait for European glory.
Guardiola lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win over Inter, with Rodri securing the victory with a goal in the 68th minute. Recognizing Inter's strength, Guardiola emphasized the importance of patience and luck in the unpredictable nature of the competition.
He credited the people from Abu Dhabi, particularly Sheikh Mansour, for their instrumental role in City's success, highlighting their unwavering support even in times of defeat. Guardiola extended his appreciation to the club's hierarchy for their faith in him, acknowledging that at other clubs, his previous Champions League failures may have resulted in dismissal.
City's triumph in the Champions League completed their treble, alongside winning the Premier League and the FA Cup. Guardiola shared that he received a touching message from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the only other manager to achieve a treble with an English team.
While Guardiola admitted that winning the Champions League again was a relief, he expressed his determination to continue striving for success in the future, ensuring City's sustained presence and avoiding a fate where teams win the trophy but fade away.
