City has achieved the dream season, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and now the Champions League, marking an unforgettable treble. This remarkable feat is the second ever achieved by an English team, with the previous occurrence being Manchester United in 1999.
For Pep Guardiola, this is a special moment. Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, he has built an incredibly successful team that has dominated English football but faced repeated setbacks in the Champions League.
Now, Guardiola can proudly add a third Champions League trophy to his resume, following his previous triumphs with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011. It's worth noting that he is the first coach in history to win two trebles.
City's journey in the Champions League was equally impressive. They scored a total of 32 goals, with 18 of them coming in the knockout stages, while conceding only five. Erling Haaland played a pivotal role as a goal-scoring machine, finding the net 12 times.
However, it was Rodri who scored the most crucial goal of the season (68) in the final, despite the match being relatively uneventful. This victory solidifies City's claim to the title of European champions.
During the game, there were notable moments of excitement and missed opportunities. Both teams had their chances to score, with some near misses and impressive saves from the goalkeepers. The match had its fair share of drama, including a significant injury scare involving Kevin De Bruyne, who had to be substituted due to concerns reminiscent of the 2021 final.
Despite the challenges faced by City's defense, they managed to avoid any major setbacks. Inter came close to scoring on a couple of occasions, but City's resilience and strong performance ensured their victory.
As the final whistle blew, City celebrated their first-ever Champions League triumph. Captain Ilkay Gundogan expressed his excitement, acknowledging the historic achievement. Jack Grealish praised Guardiola's genius, and Kevin De Bruyne emphasized the need for celebration after such a monumental victory.
