Following a reduction of his suspension to 18 months, French midfielder Paul Pogba anticipates a return to play in March 2025, expressing renewed determination for his comeback. In recent interviews, Pogba shared his regret over the "mistake" leading to his failed drug test and emphasized his commitment to playing for Juventus, even if it means giving up financial gains. Despite uncertainty around Juventus’ plans, Pogba remains focused on his return, declaring, "I will be hungrier, smarter, and stronger."
Pogba initially received a four-year ban after testing positive for banned substances early in the 2022/23 Serie A season. His appeal, recently reviewed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), resulted in a reduced 18-month suspension, allowing him to potentially rejoin the field in 2025. However, Juventus may consider releasing him, a decision that Pogba has not let deter him. “I’ve been training solo with the team, and I’m ready for a fresh start,” he shared with "La Gazzetta dello Sport". His focus remains on the support he has received from fans and former teammates, including Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala.
Addressing recent remarks from Juventus manager Thiago Motta suggesting Pogba may not be part of his plans, Pogba took a diplomatic approach, expressing eagerness to return and prove himself on the pitch. He is hopeful that his performance will speak for itself, as he aims to contribute to both Juventus and the French national team. "Talking is nice, but I want to play and be the best for Juve and France," he said, underscoring his dedication by noting he would willingly forgo pay to play.
Reflecting on the events leading to his suspension, Pogba explained that the failed test resulted from an innocuous supplement provided by a fitness professional outside Juventus, a mistake he is committed to avoiding in the future. Pogba also looked back on his tough decision to delay knee surgery in a bid to make France’s 2022 World Cup squad, saying it was a collective choice he does not regret. Despite the challenges of the past year, including a difficult extortion trial involving his brother, Pogba is motivated to move forward and return to the field stronger than before.
