Paul Pogba cleared to play again after doping suspension ends

Posted : 12 March 2025

Paul Pogba is now eligible to return to professional football after serving an 18-month doping suspension, but he must secure a new club to resume his career.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder is determined to move past the challenges of the last few years and is actively searching for a new opportunity, with the 2026 World Cup as his ultimate goal. Among the potential destinations, David Beckham’s Inter Miami in Major League Soccer has been mentioned as a possibility.

Pogba, who has 91 caps for France, struggled with injuries and inconsistent form before leaving Manchester United in 2022. His return to Juventus failed to bring stability, as further setbacks and controversies followed, including a doping ban that significantly disrupted his career.

After testing positive for a banned substance in August 2023, he initially faced a four-year suspension, which was later reduced on appeal. Pogba attributed the failed test to a food supplement recommended by a doctor in the United States.

Following his suspension, Juventus decided to terminate his contract in November 2023. Despite the setback, sources close to Pogba claim that he is training intensively, in good spirits, and has received multiple offers from interested clubs.

Pogba remains hopeful of making France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, but at 32, he must first convince national team coach Didier Deschamps that he is still capable of performing at the highest level. The two reportedly maintain close communication, with Deschamps serving as an advisor on Pogba’s career decisions.

Several clubs, including Inter Miami and Marseille, have been linked to Pogba, but concerns remain over his form after such a long absence. Off the pitch, he has also endured personal struggles, including a kidnapping and extortion case involving his brother and childhood friends. Now, Pogba sees this as an opportunity to leave the past behind and focus on rebuilding his career.
