Paris Saint-Germain leads Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd in Osimhen pursuit

Posted : 05 April 2024

Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain has taken the lead in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, surpassing English Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

Il Corriere dello Sport indicates that PSG is now at the forefront of securing the Nigerian forward's signature.

The Ligue 1 powerhouse is said to be nearing a deal to match Napoli's €130 million release clause for Osimhen, who is seen as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappé, amid speculation of Mbappé's move to Real Madrid.

Although Osimhen recently extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, the deal reportedly includes a hefty release clause of €130 million, which Napoli would be obligated to honor if activated.

The newspaper also highlights PSG's history of successful transfer dealings with Napoli, including the acquisitions of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani in 2012 and 2013, respectively, for a combined €95 million.

Additionally, PSG's positive relationship with Napoli in transfer dealings is exemplified by Fabián Ruiz's move to the Ligue 1 club in the summer of 2022.

While Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United have shown interest in Osimhen, PSG appears to have emerged as the leading contender to secure the 25-year-old's services.

Osimhen's outstanding performance for Napoli last season, where he topped the Serie A scoring charts and won the Capocannoniere award, as well as his achievements at the Ballon d'Or rankings and Africa Footballer of the Year award, have heightened his appeal.

This season, Osimhen has continued to impress for Napoli, scoring eleven goals and providing three assists in eighteen league appearances.
