Spectators were treated to the best of football as secondary schools across Oyo State continue to impress in the ongoing Preliminary Qualifiers of the Oyo State Governor's Cup, proudly sponsored by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns.
Some of the matches played on Wednesday, the third day of the Preliminary Qualifiers, saw Mount Olivet Secondary School defeating Community High School Agbowo, and Immanuel Grammar School beating Immanuel College 2-0. Other matches at the Ibadan North Preliminary Qualifiers had Abadina College crushing Methodist Grammar School 3-1.
In the Atiba Zone, Isale Oyo Commercial Grammar School won against Oranyan Grammar School 1-0, while Community Secondary School Oke Olola defeated Isale Oyo Commercial School. In another centre, Oba Abass High School beat Army Barracks Grammar School, and Ansar-Udeen High School defeated Jericho High School 1-0.
Later today, in Day 4, Isale Oyo Community Secondary School will face Isale Oyo Commercial High School in the final of the Atiba Zone Preliminary Qualifiers. Also, at the Urban Day Secondary School Pitch, Bishop Phillips Academy and Urban Day Grammar School will clash in the final of the Ibadan Zone Preliminary Qualifiers.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Schools' Sport Foundation, organizers of the Oyo State Governor's Cup, Yomi Elijah, has commended the exemplary display of sportsmanship, determination, unity, and resilience among the participating schools.
"It has been satisfying so far, and I am happy about that. Schools' sport should be all about the love for the game, growing in strength and ability, and also an avenue to learn. They have all demonstrated great team spirit and discipline so far in this competition, and hopefully, they will keep showing these qualities throughout the competition," he noted.
The competition is an initiative of the Schools Sports Foundation, headed by Yomi Elijah, a UK-trained football coach and former coach of Remo Stars, Lobi Stars, ABS FC, and Kogi United. It is proudly sponsored by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns, with other partners including Olafiranye Sports Foundation, the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Ministry of Sports, Oyo State Sports Council, Kidzfoot Nigeria, and others.
