Oyo FA announces date, venue of 2024 Oyo State play off to NLO Divison 2

Posted : 24 August 2024

The Oyo State Football Association has announced that the finals of the 2024 Nationwide Division Two League (NLO) will be held on Wednesday, August 28. Sult De King (SDK) of Ibadan and Iwalewa FC of Saki are set for a crucial two-legged encounter.

According to the Oyo FA, the final matches will take place at Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan and Saki Township Stadium in Saki, respectively. The two teams will compete for a place in the Nationwide League 2 Division.

SDK, who impressed in the zonal competition in Ibadan, had a smooth journey over other contending teams, while Iwalewa dominated in the Saki Zone to reach this stage.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Football Association, HRM Oba James Odeniran of Akinyele, noted that the association has provided a level playing field for all teams, stressing that the best team will win the ticket. The former Premier League referee asserted that the only way football can grow is to make the game truly competitive to ensure a worthy representative on all fronts.

"I want to inform you that the Oyo State Football Association has put all necessary measures in place to ensure a smooth-running Division 2 Playoff. The format will be released soon by the secretary, and we have designed it in such a way that the ticket will go to the best team.

"Let me add that in Oyo State, poor officiating is absolutely forbidden, bearing in mind that those who were found guilty in NLO Division 1 earlier this year were sanctioned accordingly.

"The two teams know that there is no anointed candidate, as we have created a level playing field that will build a sustainable football culture in Oyo State," said the respected monarch.

Regarding the arrangements made by the State Football Association, the Secretary, Kehinde Ojelowo, outlined the rules of engagement and clarified that the qualifiers will follow a home-and-away format. The release reads in part:

"We have decided on the format for the qualifiers, which will consist of two-legged matches to determine the 1st and 2nd places.

"The first match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 28, at Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan at 4 p.m., while the second leg will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Saki Township Stadium in Irewole, Saki, at 4 p.m., with gate fees set at N200 only," he said.
