"Outstanding talent" – Pundit urges clubs to scout Nwakali seriously

Posted : 14 February 2025

Barnsley analyst Andy Symcox has urged clubs to keep an eye on Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali as the summer transfer window approaches. He believes the talented player deserves closer attention from potential suitors.

Nwakali has been a key figure for the League One side this season, playing an important role as they push for a playoff position in their quest to secure promotion to the Championship. His contributions in midfield have helped Barnsley remain competitive.

With 16 matches left in the season, Barnsley are six points adrift of Huddersfield Town, who currently occupy the final playoff spot. The team remains optimistic about their chances of breaking into the top six before the campaign concludes.

The 26-year-old has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, recording one goal and one assist. While his statistics may not be overwhelming, his influence on the pitch extends beyond numbers, offering creativity and composure in midfield.

Despite his contributions, Symcox feels that Nwakali is an underrated player who has not received the recognition he deserves. He believes the Nigerian international has the potential to thrive at a higher level.

Speaking to Football League World, Symcox described Nwakali as a "remarkable talent" who has gone unnoticed by many. He urged clubs to take a serious look at the midfielder, emphasizing his quality and potential.

Nwakali, who is under contract with Barnsley until the summer of 2027, remains a key part of the squad. Any club hoping to sign him in the upcoming transfer window will likely need to present a strong offer to persuade Barnsley to let him go.
