French champions Paris Saint-Germain have made a substantial payment of €50 million to secure the transfer of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona. The winger's move to the City of Light will add a fresh dimension to their attack, as he takes on the number 23 shirt. Dembele expressed his excitement about returning to his homeland and his eagerness to contribute to the team's growth.
The announcement of Dembele's signing came shortly after Bayern Munich revealed the acquisition of Harry Kane. Dembele's departure from Barcelona after six years marks a significant shift in his career. The five-season contract with PSG marks his return to France, with his previous stint involving Rennes, and an interlude at Borussia Dortmund between his time in France and Barcelona.
The €50 million transfer fee aligns with the release clause specified in Dembele's Barcelona contract. Although he won't be included in the squad for the season opener against Lorient, Dembele is set to play a pivotal role in PSG's rejuvenated attack alongside Gonzalo Ramos and Marco Asensio.
Donning the number 23 jersey, Dembele expressed his delight: "I am very happy to be at PSG and looking forward to wearing the new uniform. I hope to continue to grow here and make all the fans proud."
Nasser Al Khelaifi, the club president, expressed his enthusiasm for Dembele's arrival: "We are delighted to welcome Dembele here, he will be an important player and committed to the club. The passion and determination Dembele showed when he arrived is fantastic, and perfectly in line with the attitude required of all our players. We are proud to bring another French world champion to PSG as we begin a wonderful era for the club."
Dembele's career journey has been marked by injuries and disciplinary issues. During his six-year tenure at Barcelona, he participated in 185 matches, contributing 40 goals and assisting 43 more. He secured three league titles, two FA Cups, and two Spanish Supercups with the club. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in France's victory in the 2018 World Cup.
