Osimhen to ink ₦10B extension in under 19 days at Napoli

Victor Osimhen, the star player for the Nigerian national team, is on the verge of signing a lucrative contract extension with Napoli, the Serie A champions, before the year concludes. Osimhen's journey with Napoli began in 2020 when he joined from Lille for a club-record €72 million. While he faced initial challenges in his debut season, the 24-year-old striker showcased stellar performance in the second season.


In the previous season, Osimhen scored an impressive 31 goals in 38 games, playing a pivotal role in Napoli's Serie A title win after a 33-year gap. He also helped the club reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in its history. Despite interest from top European clubs, Napoli successfully retained Osimhen and initiated contract extension talks.


However, negotiations hit a snag at the end of the last season, raising speculations about Osimhen leaving Napoli when his contract expires in 2025. Yet, recent reports from Napoli Magazine suggest a positive turn of events. Osimhen is expected to sign a new contract before the year concludes, securing an annual salary of €10 million (₦10 billion).


This optimistic development comes on the heels of Osimhen's historic win of the 2023 CAF Player of The Year Award. Notably, he became the first Nigerian to achieve this honor in 24 years, solidifying his status as a football sensation.
