Osimhen sidelined for Napoli's pre-season game

Posted : 03 August 2023
Napoli's prolific and talented striker, Victor Osimhen, is set to miss out on their highly anticipated pre-season fixture against Spanish side Girona due to an unfortunate muscle injury.

Osimhen, who was the undeniable lynchpin for the reigning Serie A champions in the previous season, showcased his goal-scoring prowess with an impressive 31 goals in 39 appearances, significantly contributing to their remarkable success.

After returning to pre-season training just two weeks ago, Osimhen demonstrated flashes of brilliance during practice, delighting fans and coaches alike with a stunning goal.

The anticipation was high for his performance in the first pre-season appearance against SPAL, but regrettably, he couldn't replicate his magic on the field.

Nevertheless, Osimhen proved his worth in the second fixture by netting two first-half goals, leading Napoli to a convincing 4-0 victory against Hatayspor.

Unfortunately, the Super Eagles striker's hopes of leading the line against Girona were dashed when Napoli confirmed his unavailability due to a muscle strain.

Coach Rudi Garcia will undoubtedly be keeping his fingers crossed, hoping for Osimhen's swift recovery ahead of their crucial last two pre-season games against Augsburg and Apollon.

With the Serie A campaign just around the corner, Napoli and their fans anxiously await Osimhen's return to full fitness.

The team is slated to kick off their Serie A journey on the 19th of August, facing the newly-promoted Frosinone at the iconic Stadio Benito Stirpe.

The absence of their star striker adds an element of uncertainty to their preparations, but the club remains optimistic about his eventual return to spearhead their attacking prowess and continue his impressive goal-scoring feats on the grand stage of Italian football.
