Victor Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, has emphasized that he is prioritizing the team’s success at Galatasaray over personal accolades. Despite his impressive track record as a top scorer, Osimhen’s primary focus remains on contributing to the Turkish club's goals.
The Nigerian international, who joined Galatasaray after potential moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli fell through, made the switch following a persuasive call from coach Okan Buruk. Initially prepared to stay at Napoli until January, Osimhen embraced the opportunity to compete in Turkey.
Over the years, Osimhen has earned several top scorer honors, including the Golden Boot at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the Paolo Rossi Award for the 2022-2023 season. Now at Galatasaray, he quickly showcased his attacking prowess with two goals and four assists in his first four matches.
However, Osimhen’s time in Turkey hasn’t been without challenges. After failing to score in his first three games, he found the net twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa. Unfortunately, an injury shortly after prevented him from joining the Super Eagles for October’s international matches.
In the race for the Turkish Super Lig top scorer, he currently trails behind several other forwards, including Ciro Immobile and Edin Dzeko. Despite the competition, Osimhen insists that winning the top scorer title is not his priority. Speaking to Galatasaray’s YouTube channel, he shared that his focus is on aiding the team rather than personal glory.
Osimhen expressed admiration for teammate Mauro Icardi, praising the synergy they have developed on the field. He reiterated that, while goals are essential, his main aim is to support Galatasaray’s overall objectives.
As he prepares to return to full training ahead of their upcoming clash with Antalyaspor, Osimhen remains committed to giving his best for the club. For him, collective success far outweighs individual accolades.
