Osimhen's value falls; Barcelona eyes summer transfer move

Posted : 21 March 2025

Victor Osimhen's valuation has experienced a further decline, despite his impressive scoring record during his time in Turkey. The most recent update from Transfermarkt has adjusted his value downward from €75 million to €70 million, marking the second consecutive decrease since his loan move to Galatasaray from Napoli last summer.

When he initially joined the Turkish champions, Osimhen's market value stood at €100 million. However, the absence of a substantial transfer to a major European league has contributed to a gradual reduction in his perceived worth. Nonetheless, he remains the most highly valued player within the Süper Lig.

According to Lara Karacan, the Türkiye Area Manager at Transfermarkt, speculation circulated during the winter transfer window regarding Osimhen's potential departure from Galatasaray. Reports suggested numerous clubs were prepared to activate his €75 million release clause. However, Osimhen opted to remain in the Süper Lig for the remainder of the season. Karacan suggested that this decision, for a player of his market value, impacted his image and contributed to the valuation decrease.

Despite this adjustment in value, Osimhen's on-field performance has remained consistently strong. The Nigerian forward has maintained a high level of productivity, recording 26 goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray. His consistent scoring has drawn attention from prominent European clubs, with Barcelona reportedly expressing interest in acquiring him in 2025.

Barcelona is reportedly planning for a future without Robert Lewandowski, and Osimhen has emerged as a key target to lead their attack. Sources indicate that the Catalan club is aiming to secure the Nigerian forward for a fee lower than his €75 million release clause during the summer of 2025.

Given Lewandowski's continued high performance at 36, Barcelona intends to implement a phased transition. Osimhen's dynamic playing style, speed, and goal-scoring abilities make him a compelling option to eventually assume the role of the club's primary striker.

While Osimhen is a primary target, Barcelona is also considering other players, including Alexander Isak from Newcastle, Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, Jonathan David from Lille, and Dušan Vlahović from Juventus. However, Osimhen's established track record and his potential to complement young talent like Lamine Yamal could make him their preferred choice.

Osimhen's contract with Napoli extends until June 2026, with an option for the Italian club to extend it by an additional year. However, potential friction between the player and the club might lead Napoli to negotiate a transfer fee below his release clause.
