Former Beşiktaş manager Sergen Yalçın has voiced his opinion that Victor Osimhen and Álvaro Morata are not a compatible attacking duo for Galatasaray.
The Nigerian forward, who joined Galatasaray last September after transfer talks with Chelsea and Al-Ahli fell through, has been instrumental in the team's attack. Meanwhile, Morata, a European Championship winner with Spain, arrived on loan during the winter window as temporary cover for Mauro Icardi, who is out with an ACL injury.
Osimhen has delivered an exceptional campaign, netting 28 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions. In contrast, Morata has found the net just three times in his eight games so far.
The pair has shared the pitch five times, but their connection has produced only a single goal — Osimhen assisting Morata in a league win over Antalyaspor last month.
Speaking on Kafa Sports, Yalçın asserted: "If Osimhen is unavailable, Morata can play. But they can’t be used side by side. They don’t complement each other tactically."
Yalçın also elaborated on Osimhen’s unique playing style, highlighting the importance of clear tactical instructions when working with the forward. He noted that Osimhen’s speed and instinctive play require a structured approach from the coaching staff.
“You have to explain things to Osimhen like you would to a primary school student,” Yalçın remarked. “If you don’t instruct him clearly, he won’t take responsibility. But once told, if he doesn’t follow through, that’s when accountability comes in.”
With Osimhen expected to return to Napoli at the end of the season, speculation continues to grow over a potential transfer during the summer window.
