Victor Osimhen netted three goals as Napoli secured a convincing 6-1 victory against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium- Citta del Tricolore on Wednesday.
Facing Sassuolo in a crucial Serie A match, Napoli, under Francesco Calzona, sought a win to boost their Champions League qualification prospects.
Despite an early setback with Uros Racic's goal in the 17th minute, Napoli swiftly responded. Amir Rrahmani leveled the score in the 29th minute, and Osimhen took charge with goals in the 31st and 41st minutes, propelling Napoli to a 3-1 lead by halftime.
The momentum continued into the second half as Osimhen calmly converted a pass from Kvaratskhelia, extending Napoli's lead to 4-1.
Osimhen then turned provider in the 51st minute, assisting Kvaratskhelia for Napoli's fifth goal. The Georgian player completed the scoring in the 75th minute, securing a resounding 6-1 victory.
Osimhen showcased an outstanding performance, registering five goal attempts and completing a hat-trick in his 76 minutes on the field. With this achievement, he reached ten goals for the season, becoming the third player in Napoli's history to score at least ten goals in four consecutive Serie A seasons, joining the ranks of Diego Maradona (1984/85 – 1987/88) and Attila Sallustro (1929/30 – 1932/33).
The final score of 6-1 at Sassuolo propelled Napoli to sit eight points behind the Champions League qualification spots, boosting their aspirations for a coveted spot in the prestigious tournament.
