Osimhen concedes Hakimi, Salah merit African POTY too

Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, won the CAF African Player of the Year, breaking a 24-year Nigerian drought. He lauded the performances of Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah, recognizing their contributions to football.


Osimhen's exceptional year included propelling Napoli to their first Serie A title in over three decades and finishing as the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Hakimi, instrumental in Morocco's World Cup semifinal run, and Salah, with 46 goal involvements for Liverpool, were strong contenders.


In his acceptance speech, Osimhen acknowledged the prestige of the award and stated that both Hakimi and Salah deserved recognition for their remarkable efforts on the field.


Despite missing Napoli's training session, Osimhen hopes to be included in the squad for the Champions League clash against Braga.
