Osimhen, Arokodare miss penalties; Lookman, Moffi, Ejuke shine

On Sunday, March 3rd, several Nigerian footballers made their mark in various leagues around the world. In Italy's Serie A, Victor Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli's impressive 2-1 victory against Juventus. Ademola Lookman showcased his skills for Atalanta, scoring a goal, but his team faced an unexpected 1-2 home defeat to Bologna. Additionally, Jennifer Echegini's Juventus narrowly lost 1-0 to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia Women.


Moving to France, Terem Moffi found the back of the net for OGC Nice, but his efforts weren't enough as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Toulouse. Moses Simon faced a challenging match with Nantes, losing 2-0 at home to Metz. In a thrilling encounter, Akor Adams played a key role in Montpellier's 2-2 draw with Strasbourg.

In Albania, Anthony Umejiego continued his impressive form, scoring his seventh league goal as Apolonia Fier secured a 2-0 victory against Kastrioti Krujë. In Armenia's Premier League, Sani Buhari and Olaoluwa Ojetunde were among the goal scorers for Van in their 2-0 win over Ararat-Armenia. Meanwhile, Ransom Jidechukwu's penalty sealed a 1-0 victory for Ararat against BKMA.


Belgium saw Tolu Arokodare missing a penalty as Genk faced a 0-3 defeat against Club Brugge. On a positive note, Chidera Ejuke made an impact, scoring for Royale Antwerp in their 3-0 victory over Sint-Truiden.


In Denmark's Superliga, Ibrahim Said contributed with an assist as Viborg secured an easy 3-0 win against Randers. Moving to Estonia, Ahmed Adebayo's 70th-minute penalty salvaged a point for Tammeka in their 1-1 draw with Tallinna Kalev.


In Hungary's NB I, Peter Ambrose scored his first goal of 2024, helping Újpest to a 2-0 win at home against Fehérvár. In Moldova, Emmanuel Alaribe scored for Zimbru in their 2-1 Cupa victory over Milsami.


In Sweden's Svenska Cupen, Azeez Yusuf played a significant role, scoring for Varberg in their thrilling 1-1 draw away to Malmö. However, his evening took a turn as he was later sent off.


Switzerland's Super League witnessed Ifeanyi Mathew breaking the deadlock in the first minute, securing a narrow 1-0 win for Zürich over Young Boys. Moving to Uruguay, Christian Ebere continued his excellent form, converting a penalty and helping Nacional secure a brilliant 3-0 win against Wanderers.


Lastly, in the United States, Ibrahim Aliyu scored the consolation goal for Houston Dynamo in their 2-1 defeat against New York RB at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
