Orlando Pirates defender 'grateful' for third Super Eagles cap after 31 months

Posted : 09 September 2024

Orlando Pirates defender Olisah Ndah recently expressed his happiness at being called back to the Nigeria national team after an absence of 31 months. The 26-year-old defender had been away from the squad for quite some time but was thrilled to rejoin the Super Eagles for their upcoming matches.

Ndah's return to the national team came after earning his call-up under the management of Gernot Rohr. His last appearance for Nigeria was during an international friendly that ended in a 4-0 defeat to Mexico. Despite the loss, it marked an important moment in his international career.

The defender also made an appearance during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. Under the guidance of coach Augustine Eguavoen, Ndah played in a significant 2-0 victory, which would be his last appearance for the Super Eagles until his recent recall.

His recent return to the squad was for a match against Benin Republic. Ndah came on as a substitute, replacing Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, and played for 27 minutes in a match that ended in a commanding 3-0 win for Nigeria.

Ndah expressed his gratitude for his return to the national team on his social media page, sharing his excitement after the victory. He posted images from the match, captioning them with a heartfelt message: "Blessed and grateful for this beautiful journey +3."

This match marked Ndah's third appearance for the Super Eagles and his second under coach Augustine Eguavoen. The defender has been part of the team since 2021, when Nigeria were crowned champions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Looking ahead, Ndah is expected to play a crucial role in Nigeria's upcoming match against Rwanda as the Super Eagles continue their quest to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations tournament. His return is seen as a positive addition to the squad, with fans and teammates hopeful for his continued success on the international stage.
