The kick-off date for the Nigeria Football Federation President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau's pre-season tournament, tagged Gusau/Ahlan 2024, has been postponed by one week. The new start date for the tournament is now August 20, rather than the previously announced August 13.
Tournament Coordinator Alhaji Abahurarai Dahiru explained that the change was made after consultations with stakeholders. The decision to move the date was influenced by recent protests related to the End of Bad Governance movement in some parts of the country.
Dahiru confirmed that the venue will remain New Stadium Zaria Road, Jos, in Plateau State. He added that 16 football teams from across the country, including NPFL and NNL teams, have agreed to participate. The teams are expected to arrive in Jos on August 19, with the draws scheduled for the same day. The opening match will take place on August 20 at 4:00 p.m. at New Stadium Zaria Road, Jos.
The coordinator announced that Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang would be the Special Guest of Honour, and Plateau State Football Association Chairman, Honourable Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, would be the Chief Host. Dahiru commended the Plateau State Government, particularly Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Hon. Bashir Lawandi Datti, for agreeing to host the tournament and expressed confidence in its success.
He also apologized for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and reassured that all preparations are in place for a successful event that will serve as a key testing ground for teams ahead of the 2024/2025 football season.
