A goalkeeper who displays a stellar performance during the 12th edition of the Optima Energy Gold Cup preseason tournament, ongoing at the Remo Stars International Stadium and FC Ebedei Stadium, will take home a special award, the organizers have said.
The award is being sponsored by Super Eagles and now Al Merreikh of Sudan's shot-stopper, Ojo Olorunleke.
Olorunleke, a 28-year-old, who penned a two-year contract with Al Merreikh, revealed why he chose to sponsor the award.
"A lot of credit should be given to the men between the sticks, as goalkeepers are an integral part of a team.
"This year's edition will reward the goalkeeper who keeps the most clean sheets, makes outstanding saves, and displays heroics in penalty shootouts with an award."
Meanwhile, the knockout stage of the nation's prestigious preseason tournament kicks off on Thursday with two mouthwatering clashes: defending champions Beyond Limits will face FC Ebedei at 8 a.m., while Shooting Stars of Ibadan will face Beninese Association Sportive de la Vallée de l'Ouémé (ASVO) FC in the second game, scheduled for 3 p.m.
