Frank Onyeka had a notable Bundesliga debut for Augsburg, contributing to their 3-1 victory over FC St. Pauli at WWK ARENA on Sunday. Onyeka, who joined Augsburg on deadline day, was previously unavailable as the team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Heidenheim just before the international break.
Head coach Jess Thorup included Onyeka in the starting lineup for the match against St. Pauli. Onyeka showcased his skills throughout the game, coming close to scoring on several occasions.
In the 12th minute, Onyeka seized on a loose ball after Marius Wolf's cross was cleared, attempting a volley from distance that narrowly missed the target. His efforts continued to make an impact, and in the 67th minute, he played a key role in Augsburg’s second goal.
Following Wolf's goal in the 47th minute, Onyeka delivered a precise curling cross that allowed Phillip Tietz to score with a header, doubling Augsburg's lead. Onyeka's contribution was instrumental in setting up this goal.
In the 70th minute, Onyeka had a chance to extend Augsburg's lead but hesitated and misdirected a pass intended for Essende. Despite this missed opportunity, Onyeka’s overall performance was strong.
FC St. Pauli managed to pull one back with a goal from Carlo Boukhalfa in the 75th minute. However, Kabadayi scored in stoppage time to ensure Augsburg secured the win.
Onyeka was substituted in the 83rd minute, making way for Arne Maier. According to Bundesliga’s official site, Onyeka reached a top speed of 32.57 km/h, ranking him as the third fastest player of the match, behind Dimitrios Christos Giannoulis and Ruben Vargas.
