Football activities for Paul Onuachu, Ahmed Musa, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and other Turkish-based stars are currently on hold as the Turkish Federation has suspended all league games in the country. This decision comes in the aftermath of a disgraceful incident where Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca physically assaulted referee Halil Umut Meler after their Süper Lig home match against Rizespor.
The match saw Ankaragucu take the lead with a goal from Olimpiu Morutan in the 14th minute, but joy turned to dismay as referee Halil Umut Meler sent off Ankaragucu's striker Ali Sowe early in the second half. Rizespor also ended up with ten men when Emir Han Topcu received a red card. Substitute Adolfo Gaich salvaged a point for Rizespor in stoppage time.
The unsatisfactory conclusion led to unrest among home fans, culminating in Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca physically assaulting referee Halil Umut Meler on the pitch. Club officials and players intervened, forming a protective ring around the referee until the police escorted him to the dressing room.
In response to this incident, the Turkish Football Federation promptly announced the indefinite suspension of all games in all leagues. The federation condemned the attack and pledged to impose severe penalties on everyone involved, including the club, the chairman, club officials, and those responsible for assaulting referee Umut Meler.
As a result of this decision, Nigerian players in Turkey, including Onuachu, Musa, and Osayi-Samuel, are unlikely to participate in matches this weekend. In the previous weekend's games, Onuachu played for Trabzonspor in a 3-1 victory against Gaziantep FK, Musa was on the bench as Sivasspor secured a narrow 1-0 win away to Konyaspor, and Osayi-Samuel impressed for Fenerbahce in a 3-1 win against Besiktas. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru couldn't help Hatayspor avoid a 1-0 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir.
