Onuachu joins Super Eagles injury list before World Cup qualifiers; Trabzonspor coach minimizes seriousness

Posted : 09 May 2024

Paul Onuachu is the latest addition to the Super Eagles' injury list ahead of the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

Several key players, including Tyronne Ebuehi, Zaidu Sanusi, and Moses Simon, are unlikely to feature due to long-term injuries, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, William Troost-Ekong, and Jamilu Collins are also dealing with fitness issues.

Onuachu sustained his injury during Trabzonspor's recent Turkish Cup match against Fatih Karagümrük, forcing him to leave the pitch in the second half.

The injury occurred when Onuachu landed awkwardly following an aerial challenge, prompting immediate medical attention and his subsequent substitution.

This setback comes shortly after Onuachu's recovery from a fractured forearm, which sidelined him for eight weeks.

Despite opening the scoring for Trabzonspor before his injury, Onuachu finds himself back in the treatment room as he looks to overcome this latest setback.

Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avcı downplayed the severity of Onuachu's injury, suggesting that it is not serious and expressing optimism about his recovery in the coming days.

Finidi George did not include Onuachu in the Super Eagles squad for previous internationals due to his injury concerns.
