The first football match of the Olympics faced significant disruptions, causing it to be suspended for nearly two hours due to crowd trouble. Chaotic and worrying scenes unfolded, leading to the game being completed in an empty stadium after the situation was brought under control.
Morocco initially led Argentina 2-0, but Argentina managed to pull one goal back and were aggressively pursuing an equalizer. In the 16th minute of what was supposed to be 15 minutes of injury time, Cristian Medina appeared to score the tying goal for Argentina.
However, the match was delayed further due to crowd issues. When play finally resumed without any spectators, VAR had disallowed Argentina's equalizer, and Morocco secured a contentious 2-1 victory.
