Okereke attracts Besiktas, Trabzonspor, Samsunspor after Super Lig impact

Posted : 11 March 2025

Three Turkish Super Lig clubs are actively pursuing Nigerian forward David Okereke, who has been in excellent form this season. The 26-year-old striker made an impressive impact since his loan move from Italian side Cremonese to Gaziantep FK last September, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 20 appearances.

Okereke’s performances have made him one of the standout Nigerian players in the league this term, second only to Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen in terms of goal contributions. His consistency has attracted interest from clubs aiming for European football next season, who see him as a valuable addition to their squads.

Clubs such as Samsunspor, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor have already shown interest in acquiring Okereke, who is still under contract with Cremonese until June 30, 2026. Despite this, it’s unlikely that he will return to his parent club next season, regardless of the buy option in his loan deal with Gaziantep FK.

The Nigerian forward's future plans seem focused on continuing his career in the Turkish Super Lig, though a potential return to Serie A for the 2025-2026 season remains a possibility.

Okereke’s career journey has included stints at several clubs, including Spezia, Cosenza, Club Brugge, Venezia, and Torino, in addition to his current loan at Gaziantep. These experiences have helped shape his development as a well-rounded and experienced forward.

In 2019, Okereke earned a call-up to the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior national team, though he was an unused substitute in a friendly match against Egypt. Despite this, his continued growth at the club level keeps him in contention for future call-ups.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Okereke’s name is certainly one to watch, with multiple Turkish clubs vying for his signature as he looks to build on his strong performances in the Super Lig.
