Enyimba International FC of Aba’s Under-19 striker, Henry Okere, saved his team against the visiting Bayelsa United Under-19 in the ongoing Nigeria Youth League Cup, played in Aba on Wednesday.
Okere became the hero of the day with his 88th-minute strike that separated the two teams and ensured the hosts took the three points.
In a post-match interview with sports writers, Enyimba’s Under-19 coach, Joe Akuma, praised his team’s performance and expressed his happiness with the outcome of the match.
The coach attributed his team’s victory to the “tactical changes” he made in midfield after the interval, which, he said, had collapsed.
Akuma said, “I made a tactical change, and that resulted in the only goal of the match because I discovered that my midfield had collapsed, so I had no option but to energize it.
“We are battling jet lag because we have been playing week-in, week-out, and the players are not experienced with such a congested fixture,” he said.
He promised to make changes in midfield before their next match to ensure more victories, so his team would finish the league on a high note.
