The organisers of the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL Championship on Tuesday said that the much-expected league would kick-off on July 7.
NWFL noted that the second-tier league, which would last for a week, would be held in Sagamu and Ikenne simultaneously in Ogun State from July 7 to 14.
A total of 12 clubs will slug it out for the two promotional slots to the premiership, while two bottom placed teams will be relegated to the NWFL Nationwide League.
The Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, explained that teams were expected to arrive in Ogun State on Friday, July 7 for the Draws and Pre-Match Meetings.
"The Match Day 1 on Saturday, July 8th, will see three matches from Group A and B, while Match Day 2 on Sunday, July 9th, will witness the same number of matches.
"Monday, July 10 is rest day, while Match Day 3 holds on Tuesday July 11 with three matches to be played.
"Match Day 4 holds on Wednesday, July 12 with three matches, and Thursday, July 13 will be observed as the second rest day.
"The Match Day 5 holds on Friday, July 14 with the last three matches."
The NWFL C.O.O noted that for this year’s Championship, 12 registered clubs will play in Ogun State, adding that at the end of the NWFL Championship on July 14, two teams with the highest points will be promoted to the NWFL Premiership.
Two stadia picked as match venues for this year’s tournament are Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne and FC Ebiede Stadium in Sagamu – both in Ogun State.
