Official: Ismaheel leaves Lorient to join Polish club permanently

Posted : 17 July 2024

In an official announcement on their website, French Ligue 2 club Lorient has confirmed the transfer of Nigerian winger Taofeek Ismaheel to Polish Ekstraklasa side Górnik Zabrze. This move marks a significant step in Ismaheel's career as he transitions to a new league and seeks greater playing opportunities.

The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Górnik Zabrze, binding him to the club until June 30, 2027. This commitment reflects the club's confidence in his abilities and their vision for his future contributions on the pitch.

Ismaheel joined Lorient in January 2022 but was immediately loaned out to Vålerenga Fotball in Norway. His loan spell allowed him to gain valuable experience in a competitive environment before he was further loaned to SK Beveren in Belgium for two years.

During his time at SK Beveren, Ismaheel made a significant impact, participating in 56 matches across all competitions. He demonstrated his offensive capabilities by directly contributing to 18 goals, including eight goals and ten assists, showcasing his talent and effectiveness as a winger.

Górnik Zabrze has been active in the transfer market this window, strategically recruiting players to strengthen their squad. Ismaheel joins a wave of new signings that includes three players who previously played for top five European league clubs, highlighting the ambitious nature of the club's recruitment strategy.

His arrival follows in the footsteps of Aleksander Buksa and Lukáš Ambros, who were signed from Serie A and Bundesliga teams, respectively. Ismaheel's dynamic playing style and ability to use both feet proficiently make him a valuable addition to the team, capable of enhancing their attacking options.

Furthermore, Górnik Zabrze appears to be preparing for potential changes in their squad, as Ismaheel is seen as a possible replacement for German winger Lawrence Ennali, who is reportedly linked with a summer departure from the club. With a football background that includes stints at Crystal Palace academy, HB Abuja, Skeid, and Fredrikstad, Ismaheel is poised to make his mark in the Polish league.
