Everton extended their unbeaten Premier League streak to nine matches after Jake O’Brien scored a dramatic late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at Goodison Park. The match, dubbed the 'David Moyes Derby,' saw the visitors take the lead in the 67th minute when Tomas Soucek curled a shot into the bottom-right corner following a pass from Jarrod Bowen.
Everton had an earlier penalty appeal overturned by VAR, which showed Beto had kicked the turf instead of being fouled.
With time running out, Ireland defender O’Brien ensured the home side salvaged a point by heading in from close range in the 90th minute. Reflecting on the game, he acknowledged Everton's attacking intent, stating that they "flooded the box with bodies" in pursuit of an equalizer.
Carlos Alcaraz nearly secured all three points for the Toffees but narrowly missed the target with a late effort. Meanwhile, Moyes, who had previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, acknowledged the West Ham supporters after the final whistle in his first return to Goodison since leaving the London club.
The draw left both teams tied on 34 points, comfortably clear of the relegation battle but unlikely to challenge for European qualification. Everton sit 14th, while West Ham are 16th, with both sides holding a 17-point cushion above the bottom three.
Soucek expressed frustration at the result but admitted Everton’s strong home support made it a difficult fixture. The Merseyside club has just four more home games before moving to their new waterfront stadium, marking the final chapter of their long history at Goodison Park.
