NYG Asaba 2023: 178 Plateau State Contingent hit Asaba

About 178 athletes are now in the city of Asaba, the venue of the 7th edition of the National Youth Games.

Plateau State Contingent which includes 116 athletes, 25 Coaches, 10 Secretaries, 10 Logistics officials, and four officials from the Ministry of Sports including the Commissioner of Sports and Permanent Secretary.

Others include the Director of Sports and 3 other Management Staff, 2 pressmen and 4 security personnels, will be battling it out to surpass their last finish in Ilorin in 2021 where they came 12th on the medals table, winning 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals and zero bronze medal.

According to the team, Plateau State has medal prospects in Athletics, Scrabble, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Golf and Football.

Plateau State will partake in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cycling, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Scrabble, Squash, Golf, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Football, Wrestling and Weightlifting.

This year’s edition of the National Youth Games, will have 4,504 athletes in action in about 35 sporting events, all on display from participating States in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.

Screening of athletes will be done on the 22nd of September, 2023.

Opening ceremony will be held on the 23rd of September at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

That same 23rd of September will see the start of events like: Weightlifting, Table Tennis, and Para Table Tennis.

This year’s National Youth Games officially starts with the opening ceremony on Sept. 23 and will come to an end officially with the closing ceremony on Sept. 30, all at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
