NWFL Wk14: Edo Queens confirmed superiority in Group B

Posted : 21 April 2023
Red-hot Edo Queens Football Club of Benin today confirmed their supremacy in Group B of the 2022/23 Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership season as they piped Abia Angels 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium Abia State.

The suspended NWFL week 14 match suspended after 30 minutes of action due to a heavy downpour in Umuahia was replayed on Thursday.

Both teams came into the pitch with renewed vigor and determination to outplay each other, but the ladies from Benin City took dominance of the game by showing their superiority over the host team throughout 60 minutes duration of play.

The second half resumed with a stunning start by the visitors' mounting series of pressure on the Aba-based girls as the Benin creative midfielder Suliat Abideen got a loose ball and flung it to Omotoke Odueke, who wasted no time in producing a wonderful curling finishing with a goal at 48th minute which silenced the teeming fans of the host team.

To beef up the attack, Moses Aduku pulled out Godwin Eunice and Rebecca Ajimuda and brought in Yetunde Fajobi and Esther Chioma Moses.

Their coming in made a serious impact in the second half as Esther Moses threw away two scoring chances for her side.

Abia Angels goal stopper Iyene Etim, was the saving grace in the match as she stopped  Edo Queens attacking line-up.

Though the Moses Aduku-led side squandered plenty of opportunities to get as many goals as five, Edo Queens FC at the end of the encounter smiled home with three maximum points.

The is now topping Group B with 25 points leaving their arch-rivals FC Robo of Lagos with 22 points.

The Benin-City-based ladies will play their hearts out on the pitch to see victory in the forthcoming  Super Six and the Aiteo Cup tournament.

Edo Queens will be focusing all of their efforts on progression in a bid to win laurels for the State in national and continental competitions.
