NWFL unfolds 2024/2025 Premiership draws

As the management of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership unveiled the draws for the 2024/2025 league season, defending champions Edo Queens will begin their title defense against Abia Angels at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.  


This announcement was made during the NWFL Annual General Assembly (AGA) held at Fabino by Toprank Hotels in Abuja on Tuesday, as part of the resolutions reached during the assembly.

Among the key resolutions was the confirmation of the kick-off date for the 2024/2025 season, scheduled for January 15, 2025.  


A total of 16 teams were drawn into two groups of eight, following the rejection of a proposal to expand the league to 18 teams.  


Group A features defending champions Edo Queens, Abia Angels, Ekiti Queens, Heartland Queens, Confluence Queens, Remo Stars Ladies, Nasarawa Amazons, and Dannaz Ladies.  


Group B comprises Rivers Angels, Ibom Angels, Adamawa Queens, Naija Ratels FC, Honey Badgers FC, FC Robo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, and Delta Queens.  


The league format will remain unchanged from last season, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the Super Six playoffs to determine the overall league champion.  


Edo Queens, who represented Nigeria in the CAF Champions League by virtue of winning the league last season, are set to continue their impressive run as Ibom Angels and Honey Badgers, recently promoted to the Premiership, had their promotions ratified.  


The Matchday One fixtures for the 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership season were also released during the Congress and are as follows:  


Group A
Edo Queens vs Abia Angels  
Ekiti Queens vs Heartland Queens  
Confluence Queens vs Remo Stars Ladies  
Nasarawa Amazons vs Dannaz Ladies  


Group B  
Rivers Angels vs Ibom Angels  
Adamawa Queens vs Naija Ratels  
Honey Badgers vs FC Robo Queens  
Bayelsa Queens vs Delta Queens
