NWFL Super Six Playoffs: Edo Queens Head Coach, Aduku, Praises Team Over 5-1 Victory

Edo Queens of Benin City coach, Moses Aduku, is still relishing his side’s 5-1 mauling of Confluence Queens of Lokoja in the opening match of this year’s Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super-6 and rates the standard of play very highly.

A total of three matches took place on the first day of the 2024 NWFL Super-6 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and though many observers slammed Confluence Queens for losing so massively, Aduku conceded that his opponents put up a good fight.

The former youth international midfielder then went on to declare that he and his players have now turned their focus on their next match, even as he affirmed that winning the title is their target.

Heading into Monday’s clash with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt at the same venue, Aduku declared emphatically that Edo Queens owe it a duty to their very supportive state government to return home with the trophy at the end of proceedings on May 26th.

Aduku started by celebrating his team’s victory and then hailed the quality of play in the NWFL, saying: “I’m happy we won. Overall, I think Nigeria’s female league is improving daily.

“Even though we won 5-1, Confluence Queens’ girls showed that they are also good players.

“They had one or two chances but could not take them, while we got ours and took five of them.

“We hope to win our remaining matches, and we will now start preparing for the next game, which is against Rivers Angels.”

He also spoke about what motivated his players to go all out against their opponents from Kogi State: “Today’s match was a payback time because we were not happy when they beat us last year.

“My girls played well on that day, but they could not put the ball into the net.

“We had to go back and work on goal-scoring, which paid off today. We hope to continue scoring in other games. We’ll take it one game at a time.

“For us, the second position is not an option. Last year, we lost out woefully. This year, the government is waiting for us.

“They’ve done everything for the team. They’ve supported the team financially and otherwise.

“So, I think we are condemned to win the Super-6, but it’s one game at a time. Our next focus is the game on Monday, which is versus Rivers Angels.”
