Heartland Queens on Sunday denied their neighbors, Rivers Angels, a victory party with a 1-1 draw in the NWFL Super Six playoffs matchday 5 at the Nembe City Stadium in Nembe, Bayelsa state.

The keenly contested match saw both sides fiercely attacking each other and testing their defenses. On-the-field captain, Chimebere Opara, came close to breaking the deadlock early in the game, but Rivers Angels' goalie, Morufa Ademola, stood her ground to deny the Owerri side the first-half opener.

Rivers Angels drew first blood in the 72nd minute when Adugbe Olamide capitalized on a loose ball to head the ball past goalkeeper Uchenna Chukwu, raising Rivers Angels' hope of winning the league title.

The Owerri landladies fired on all cylinders in search of an equalizer as Rivers Angels stood their ground. Super substitute Emmanuella James eventually found the much-sought-after equalizer for Heartland Queens from a goal-mouth melee in the 90th minute, dashing the hopes of the Jewel of Rivers for a league crown and a return to the continent.

The result in Yenagoa between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens also ended one goal apiece, giving the ancient city side the clear advantage to be crowned the league champions with a princely 10 points.

Heartland Queens ended up in the fifth spot on the table with three points, while Rivers Angels trailed behind the champions, Edo Queens, with 9 points as runners-up.

Heartland Queens will now shift their focus to the President Federation Cup round of 16 clash against FC Robo Queens on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta state.
