NWFL Super 6 playoffs: Nasarawa Amazons recieves N.5M largesse from govt.

Posted : 17 May 2024

The Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, on Thursday bidded farewell to the State-owned Women's Football Team, Nasarawa Amazons, at the Lafia City Stadium as they journey to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women's Football League Super Six  Play-offs competition.

Addressing the team shortly after their last training session, the Deputy Governor said,

"I am here on behalf of the Governor and good people of Nasarawa State to bid you farewell as you travel to Yenagoa for your Super six Play-off Competition.

"For the few minutes I watched your training programme today, I wish to say I am very impressed because this is the quality that every responsible sport person would want to see.

"Kudos to the Coaching Crew for the good job you have been doing, and to the players, for the quick adaptability.

"We are very proud of you all because you are always on track to make everyone happy with your performance.

"The last time I was with you in Kaduna, in 2019, you brought home the Aiteo Federation Cup, beating heavyweights, Rivers Angels of Port-Harcourt.

"Now, we are going for the Super Six. You will excel and come back home with the trophy, and by implication, pick the only slot for the Women's CAF Continental engagement.

"With the efforts of the Crew, the Players, the Management, and the Ministry, I am very confident that we are going to excel.

"As a Government, whatever it takes to support you to succeed, we will continue to make available to you because we have a sports-loving Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, who is far more current than me in what is happening in both Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons.

"The Governor takes members of the Amazons as his own children, and that's what you will continue to feel, going forward.

"You have his full backing even as you are carrying the weight of every member of the State on your shoulders. We are looking forward to this club playing Continental football.

"For those who are doing well, we will continue to support them.

"I have already made contact with my colleague in Bayelsa State and be assured of a VIP treatment throughout the tournament."

Responding to the gesture of the Deputy Governor, Head Coach of Nasarawa Amazons, Christopher Danjuma, thanked him for the visit and reminisced how the Deputy's presence in the past had spurred them to success.

"For your presence and that of the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary, and everybody involved, we are going out to make Nasarawa State proud, and this will be the first time that the Club will play Continental football."

Earlier, Chairperson of the Club and Vice Chairman, Nigeria Women's Premier Football League Board, Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, had informed the Deputy Governor and his delegation about the team's activities in Yenagoa and the planned trip.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, and Permanent Secretary, Barr. Isaac Danladi, were on hand to receive the Deputy Governor and his entourage.

The visit climaxed with the personal donation of Five Hundred Thousand Naira by the Deputy Governor to the team and a visit to the players' Camp House.

The Nigeria Women's Football League Super Six Championship will commence on 18th and run through to 26th May, 2024, with the Amazons locking horns against Confluence Queens FC of Lokoja, Heartland Queens of Owerri, Rivers Angels of Port-Harcourt, Edo Queens of Benin City and Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa via a round-robbin format with the eventual winners determined through points earned.
