As hostilities resume in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Sunshine Queens FC of Akure will play host to Delta Queens tomorrow (Wednesday) in the eighth matchday of the second stanza of the Women Elite League.
The Nigeria Women Football League had embarked on a mid-season break from January 11th to February 14th this year.
The defending champions of the league had previously defeated Sunshine Queens 3-1 in the first-leg match played at Asaba Stadium, Delta State.
Both teams are in high spirits, filled with confidence to avenge their first-leg loss against Delta Queens when they face off on Wednesday at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
It's worth noting that the club did not permit their players to go on holiday during the mid-season break due to the precarious situation they found themselves in Group B of the abridged Women's league.
Several players have vowed to give their all to rectify the issues from the first stanza, expressing their dissatisfaction with the club's position on the league log.
"With God on our side, we are going to do everything legitimately, with fasting, prayers, and with the physical and tactical training that our coaches have imparted on us. We believe we are going to change the narrative for good, not only to make our fans happy but also to make ourselves happy."
The Akure-based Landladies have also strengthened the team with two experienced players. Ogechi Joseph, a central defender, and Precious Edewor, an experienced attacker, have returned to the club after spending a few months on the sidelines due to an injury sustained at home during the holiday.
Sunshine Queens signed the experienced central defender from Nasarawa Amazons FC, while Precious Edewor was part of the squad that brought the team back to the Nigeria Women Football League after spending a season in a lower league in the 2022/23 football season.
