NWFL Opener: Delta Queens coach confident ahead of clash with Ekiti debutants
Posted : 13 November 2023
Ahead of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) kick-off, Tosan Blankson, the head coach of defending champions Delta Queens, has declared a competitive stance against Ekiti Queens. Blankson revealed this in an interview preceding the season's opener scheduled against Ekiti Queens at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ekiti on Tuesday.
He expressed caution regarding the perceived threat posed by the debutant team, Ekiti Queens, acknowledging their potential.
"The game against Ekiti Queens will be very tough. As you mentioned, they are debutants. Ekiti Queens may be a new name in the league, but the players are not new to the system. Nevertheless, I assure you victory, but they will be respected," Blankson stated confidently.
Delta Queens clinched the league title with an unbeaten run last season.
The league body has announced a significant milestone for women's football enthusiasts, with the eagerly anticipated NWFL 2023–24 premiership season opener clash between Ekiti Queens F.C and Delta Queens set to be broadcast live for the first time in the league's history, exclusively on afrosport.tv, the official broadcasting partner for the NWFL 2023–24 season.
Additionally, notable figures including the Nigeria Football Federation's Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, NWFL leader Nkechi Obi, and other dignitaries are set to grace the NWFL opening game in Ekiti. They will be welcomed by the Chief host, Dr. Oyebanji, the Ekiti State First Lady.
